What is ment by "bisque ceramics" or "ceramic bisque"

Ceramic pieces can be made in 2 ways.
They can be molded by clay or they can be made using a liquid substance called slip (liquid clay).
We use slip which is poured into molds, and after a time the excess is poured out.
When dry enough the mold is open and the piece is taken out.
This is called greenware. The greenware has to dry completely
It is then cleaned to take out the seam lines and other imperfections.

The greenware is then put in a kiln which is a large oven capable of high temperatures.
The temperature is set for 1944 degrees F.
It takes about 7.5 hours to reach this temperature, and 10 to 14 Hours to cool down.

This piece is now "bisque: and ready to be painted.
If you use acrylic paint no further firing is need
If you use glazes a second firing at 1818 degrees is needed.
